He is the king of the birds, symbol of the sun, and is so fast like the wind. In addition, this inconceivable speed with which he effortlessly travels from the material to the spiritual world, still makes him the symbol for the esoteric wisdom of the Vedic books (they partly are more than 3000 years old)!

"typical Balinese Keris-dagger holder"
According to the Hindu epic "Ramayana", Rawana ist the famous demon-king of Lanka, who kidnapped Sita, the wife of the prince Rama,an incarnation of god Wisnu. Thereupon a war began between good and evil. Of course, the good won! "Rawana" statues are often used as guardin-statues. According to the Balinese Motto: Where the evil is already, evil can no go any further.
In the past Balinese men always carried a Keris dagger with them. When they came to visit another house, the Keris was put off. Mostly in the Hands of such statues at the entrance.

"Tualen represents a Balinese clown-figure. He is an old and ugly man with a noble heart, always jovial and humerous, who offers wise advice to characters in the Show (shaddow puppet Show or theatre). Merdah is one of his three sons. Merdah is also a truth defender and a warrior. In the famour epic "Bhima Swarga" (part of the Mahabharata), "the Balinese journey of the souls", Tualen and Mredah accompany Bhima on the way through the hell and the heaven.

An Odalan is a Balinese village temple festival in Indonesia. The villagers celebrating the anniversary of the day of his first consecration. At Odalan the Hindu village community comes together, invite the gods to visit them for a view days, perform religious services together offering refreshments and entertainment. For the village community the temple birthday is the highlight of the festival calendar and everyone wears their best clothes. The temples are decorated with great effort.
