In 1966 his dream took him on his first long
distance flight to Bali in a 4 engined Lufthansa
aircraft, turbo-prop, lasting 35 hours. There he
bought the first works of local art to take back
to Europe, where some of them can still be seen
today. This passion, once aroused, was to
stimulate him to continue to buy such artefacts
and object d’art and bring them back and to sell
in Europe after his trips.
1966/67 he took the first great Asia tour to Thailand
and Burma, to the Empire of the golden Pagodas,
and to Cambodia. From there he went on to China
via Japan and the Philippines. Showing ingenuity,
he hitched rides from an air-post company to
Singapore, Java and Sumatra, the end of his
first big expedition.
