His first excursion was to Egypt with an 8mm
Bolieu movie camera in 1965
. There he was
immediately fascinated by the beauty of the art
and culture. The film he made at that time, was
his first. Since flights from Germany were getting
better all the time, Bolieu bought the film as
a commercial proposition and provided him with
better technology.
Better equipped and sponsored, he travelled to the
places he imagined to visit on the map in his old
room. He now had a 16mm and a 22mm cinema-
tography camera. Every trip became an exhibition
with all this equipment. The camera lenses,
batteries and spools of film - more than 300kg
of equipment to carry. A far cry from today’s digital
cameras.
